Reversing Camera FAQ's

I would like to fit a reversing camera system to my articulated lorry ...1) I would like to fit a reversing camera system to my articulated lorry, what do you recommend?

Where the application will allow it, we always recommend the wired reversing camera system to ensure the best possible picture at all times. For a situation such as this where you need to regularly connect/disconnect the camera cable, we can supply a Susie Kit with your reversing camera system. Call us to order.

If I purchase a 2 camera system ....2) If I purchase a 2 camera system, how do I view the 2 different images?

You can only view the picture from 1 camera at a time, to switch between cameras you use a small slider switch on the connection/switch box, this should therefore be located somewhere easily accessible.

Can I use a reversing camera system to send pictures ....3) Can I use a reversing camera system to send pictures to the internet?

The reversing camera system does not have an output option so you can only watch your pictures on the screen supplied. We cannot offer you anything to view camera images on your computer or on the internet and we do not offer the option to record images or transmit through an alternative monitor or DVD player.

It is however possible to play your DVD's through the camera system monitor if you wish!

I want to fit a reversing camera system to my combine harvester ....4) I want to fit a reversing camera system to my combine harvester, will it be up to the job?

We have been supplying these reversing camera systems for nearly 3 years now and they have been fitted onto loading shovels, excavators, combine harvesters, fleets of lorries, mobile homes, vans etc. etc. The price confirms that these are not systems designed for extreme conditions but we are confident that they are good value and good quality systems that are designed and made well enough to cope with most applications. If in doubt, call us to discuss your application in more detail.

How good is the picture on a wireless reversing camera system?5) How good is the picture on a wireless reversing camera system?

The picture itself is excellent with no noticeable difference from the wired version.

The problem with wireless is that any signal transmitted through the air will be weaker than that passed through a wire.

For the best possible signal, you need a direct line of sight between the antennae of the transmitter (camera) and receiver (switch box). If the signal will need to pass through a vehicle or around buildings or if it is likely to be affected by other signals such as mobile telephones, CB radios, other wireless signals etc, we would recommend that you choose wired instead where possible.

In many cases, you will only have to live with an occasional flicker of the picture or some lines across the screen but I would suggest you only buy 1 system to test before ordering wireless for your whole fleet.

Another major consideration is that there are only 2 camera frequencies so operating more than 1 wireless system in the same area could result in pictures being picked up from the wrong system!

What is the picture like at night on these reversing camera systems?6) What is the picture like at night on these reversing camera systems?

All systems have full colour TFT monitors providing an excellent colour picture in the day. At dusk, the colours become less clear but the picture remains excellent. As darkness falls the bank of 18 LED's switches on providing sufficient illumination to continue providing an excellent clear picture in black and white.

Direct sunlight causes the same problems for camera vision as it does for your eyes so where possible, mount your camera in a position that keeps this issue to a minimum and make use of the camera's sun visor!

How should I power my reversing camera system? 7) How should I power my reversing camera system?

We would recommend that you hard wire the system on your vehicle to ensure a reliable power source. This would normally be taken from the rear of the ignition switch, cigarette lighter socket, relay etc or directly from the battery.

You need to connect + and 0 volts wires and if you just use ignition power, the reversing camera system will always be on when the ignition is on so the monitor or switch box will need to be switched off when the picture is not required.

If you also connect the reversing signal wire to send power to the box when reverse gear is selected the system will assume that Camera 1 is the reversing camera ....If you also connect the reversing signal wire to send power to the box when reverse gear is selected the system will assume that Camera 1 is the reversing camera and prioritise it for reversing so that: 1) If switched off, your reversing camera system will automatically switch on when you reverse. 2) If already switched on the picture will switch to Camera 1 and flip the picture into reverse mode.

For easy wiring or quick removal, we can supply you with a cigarette lighter power cable, please request this when you order!

8) I want to purchase reversing camera systems for my 4x4 and for my HGV, what do I need to specify in my order as one uses a 12V supply and the other uses 24V?

All of our reversing camera systems will accept 11-32V dc input voltage so you can fit them to a 12V 4x4, a 24V HGV or you can even move them from one vehicle to the other if you really want to!
